Emily's baptism

Today was Emily's baptism! Isn't the invitation, of which I took a lousy picture and from which I've geekily redacted our address, etc., adorable?

Here is a picture of the gorgeous cake I got from Obbie's Bakery at the last minute when, through no fault of my own, my original cake order got cancelled by another bakery. Thank you, Obbie's! Because also, it was delicious.

Emily was very well-behaved during the service and ceremony, even though she was HOT in her christening gown and slip. She is the fourth generation to wear the gown, which was handmade 90 years ago by my great-grandmother Emilia Hardouin Daix, worn by my grandmother (from whom Emily gets her middle name), her two brothers, my mom, my brother, and me. So, she looked adorable in "vintage" clothing.

Here's the happy family after the service. One of us found getting baptized exhausting.

Emily has wonderful godparents -- my cousin Kim and my brother David-Paul. Here's the five of us, looking at a different camera than the one that took this picture. It happens.

At the after-party, Emily changed into playclothes and hung out with her Great-Great-Uncle Ashby; Emily is his first great-great neice.

Thanks to all who helped out with the party and with Emily this weekend, especially our parents, Mary Clay, Matt, and Melody. We couldn't have had such a successful event without y'all.

Now that the excitement is over, Emily is going to share one of my favorite activities with me tonight: watching an awards show! Well, we'll at least watch the Emmys until we fall asleep, likely before 9:00. We are party animals.
